A shearling ram from Deborah Whitcher’s Galtres flock in Yorkshire topped the entire offering for this year’s NSA Early Ram Sale, selling for 3000gns. This March-born tup is by Artnagullion Armani and caught the eye of Geoff Probert for the family’s Mortimer flock in Worcestershire who was impressed by his shape and fleshing. 

Regular vendor Charles Marwood, also made the journey down from Yorkshire and had a strong pen of 15 shearling rams forward and was rewarded with the next top price of 2200gns for a March-born son of Lowery Buzz. The purchaser was Tom Chinn, Pembrokeshire. The Foulrice flock had a further tup at 2000gns which went to Messrs Williams from Usk. Other four figure sales from this pen were 1700gns and 1300gns. 

Gail and Gwyn Jones from Newchurch West enjoyed an excellent day’s trade with their pen of 11 March-born shearling rams with five making over 1500gns from their Springfield flock. Top price in their pen was a Loanhead Vantastic son selling for 2200gns to Ben and Bryden Baker, Abergavenny.  

Meanwhile, I J Thomas and Partners, Vale of Glamorgan took two other higher priced tups from the pen at 1750gns and 1600gns.  Next best was a Knockin Voltage son at 1450gns which sold to A E Weaver and Son, Bristol, while a son of Foxhill Va Va Voom sold for 1400gns to F Horman & Co, Dyfed.  

The average price for Charollais shearlings on the day was £1107.38 for 43 sold, representing an increase of £267 on the 2025 sale. 

Ram lambs also recorded an average increase of £94.80 compared with the 2025 sale. Leading this section was Charles Marwood with a high performance index son of Foulrice Aristocrat. Going to 800gns was A G Priest, Llangwm. The pre-sale show judge,Tom Nancekivell from Cornwall put the final bid in of 750gns for his champion, the ram lamb Pembroke Encore from David Lewis, Pembroke.  Local breeder Paul Curran secured the next three top prices with ram lambs from his Wernfawr flock.  

Following the sale, NSA Wales and Border Ram Sale Chairman, Geoff Probert commented “there were some excellent pens of top quality Charollais shearling rams on offer and these were rewarded with increased prices for their vendors.”
