Runningburn flock leads High Flyers at 2600gns

A strong trade across the board met Charollais breeders at the High Flyers female sale at Hereford on Saturday (22nd October) with shearling ewes seeing a top call of 2600gns and ewe lambs peaking at 2000gns. 

Sale leader was a shearling ewe, Runningburn 21VDU00288, from Kelso, Scottish Borders-based Jim Neil. By Springhill Untouchable, this one is out of a Wernfawr bred female by Brettles Sherman. She sold having scanned for twins to Springhill Adonis to Graham Foster, Ardstraw, Co Tyrone, Northern Ireland, for the Springhill flock.

From the same pen was Runningburn 21VDU00285, an ET-bred sister to the sale leader, selling for 2200gns. This one caught the eye of Jason Henderson for his Carrichue flock, Limavady, Co Londonderry, Northern Ireland.

A powerful run of shearlings from first time sale vendors Messrs R G and R A Jones and Son’s Robleston flock, based at Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, saw a top call of 2150gns. Their leader, Robleston 21WGN05371 is by Arbryn Tonto and out of a homebred female by Rhaeadr Real Deal. This one sold having been scanned for twins to Loanhead Washington to Gareth Lee for the recently established Calogale flock, Kidwelly, Carmarthenshire.

Next up selling at 2000gns and joining the previously mentioned shearling ewe on the road home to Carmarthenshire for the Calogale flock, was the best from Arwyn Thomas, Whitland, Carmarthenshire. This substitute lot is by Arbryn Tonto and out of a homebred female by Shamrock Northern Star.

The next to join the Calogale flock was a pair of ET-bred sisters by Skyefall Virgil Van Dijk and out of a homebred female by Bronwydd Terminator from the Jones family. The first was Robleston 21WGN05376, which sold carrying a single to Washington for 1900gns, while the second was Robleston 21WGN05394, which was knocked down at 1850gns having been scanned for twins to Washington.

Another full ET-bred sister to the last pair, Robleston WGN05387, caught the eye of R J Tindall, Wetherby, West Yorks, when selling for 1700gns.

Meanwhile at 1400gns was Robleston 21WGN05361, an Arbryn Tonto daughter carrying a single to Artnagullion Turbo, which sold to Arwyn Thomas for his Arbryn flock.

At the same money was another from Jim Neil in the form of Runningburn 21VDU00299. By Wernfawr Special edition, this one is out of a Wernfawr female by FFrwd Tyrone and was sold carrying twins to Springhill Adonis, again to previous buyer Graham Foster.

Ewe lambs 

Leading ewe lamb at 2000gns was David and Paul Curran, Brecon, Powys, with Wernfawr 22XEV01930. By Logie Durno Wall St and out of a Glyn Coch Night To Remember homebred daughter, this one is full sister to last year’s ewe lamb sale topper. This one now joins the Prestleigh flock of Tom Newth, Shepton Mallet, Somerset.

Next up having made the journey down from Cockermouth, Cumbria, were father and son David and Jonathan Norman with Kirkhouse 22XNK03150. By Kirkhouse Optimus and out of a homebred female by Kirkhouse Robinson, this one was knocked down at 1250gns to previous buyer R J Tindall.

Then back with the Curran family’s pen and joining the ewe lamb sale leader back to Somerset for the Prestleigh flock was Wernfawr 22XEV01933, another Wall St daughter, this time out of a Wernfawr Nijinsky. She sold for 1150gns.

Then next up from the same pen with a call of 1000gns was Wernfawr 22XEV01918. By Glyn Coch Volcano and out of a Wedderburn female by Parkgate Outlaw, this one sold to G Evans, Beulah, Newcastle Emlyn.
