The first of the Charollais female sales for the autumn calendar kicked off at Worcester on Saturday (4thOctober) and leading this year’s Oktoberfest Sale offering was a ewe lamb from Robert and Jeanette Gregory’s Shrewsbury, Shropshire-based Edstaston flock.
Edstaston Diamonte 25TG01540 is by the 12,000gns Boyo Commander and out of a homebred female by Knockin Shockin, making her a full sister to this year’s Carlisle Sale leader, the 14,000gns Edstaton Dakota. At 3000gns, this one found a new home with Dave Roberts for his Boyo flock, Shrewsbury, Shropshire.

Next best and continuing strong demand for classy ewe lambs was Penpergwm, Abergavenny-based Ben Baker, selling a January-born ewe lamb by Springhill Butterfly Effect. B B Destiny 25VKX07114 is out of a Gwyndy ewe, by Boyo Vancouver and at 2600gns found a new home with F A and C Elsworthy, Tiverton, Devon, for the Elsridge flock.

Meanwhile at 1500gns was the best of the ewe lambs from George Hoggard’s Manor House flock at Kirton, Nottinghamshire. Manor House 25VFZ00287 is by Oakchurch Ruben and out of a Logie Durno sired Loanhead Talisman daughter. This one sold to Hereford-based Jeremy Price.

Another from the same pen, Manor House 25VFZ00304, then followed at 1400gns. By Springhill Blue Steel and out of a Foxhill Va Va Voom sired Logie Durno daughter, this January-born lamb caught the eye of previous vendor Ben Baker for his B B flock.
Edstaston 25TG01510 from the same pen as the sale leader and this time by Knockin Shockin and out of a Castellau female by Thackwood U Corker then found a new home at 1300gns. With an index in the top 10% for the breed, this one was the pick of Graham Foster for the Springhill flock, Co Tyrone.
In-lamb shearling ewes
Shearling ewes met a ceiling of 1100gns for the Cavick pen of Mitchel and Elizabeth Britten, Wymondham, Norfolk. Their leader was Cavick 24WVW01647, a Loanhead Vanquish daughter out of a Rhaeadr Orlando sired Loanhead daughter. Having been scanned triplets to Glyn Coch Corach Rambler, this one heads to Gamlingay, Bedfordshire, with Kenny Titmus, for the Wychelms flock.

Two more shearling ewes followed from the Cavick pen with a 1000gns price tag, the first being a Loosebeare Voldermort daughter out of an Arbryn female. This one was sold carrying twins to Glyn Coch Corach Rabler with the hammer falling to Harry Bishop and Emily South, for the Chiltern flock based at Fencott, Oxfordshire.
Then at the same money was a Thackwood Tyson Fury daughter in the form of Cavick 24WVW01678, this time out of a Gwyndy female by Wedderburn Rogue. Again, scanned for twins to Rambler, this one was knocked down to Arwyn and Jane Thomas for the Arbryn flock, Whitland, Carmarthenshire.
Three shearling ewes from Manordeilo, Carmarthenshire-based Adrian Davies’ Glyn Coch flock also shared a 1000gns price tag, his first being Glyn Coch 24XCA02244, a Glyn Coch Ace daughter out of a homebred Brettles Sherman daughter. AI’d and scanned a single to the 10,000gns Cavick Davinci Code, this one heads to R J and J Towers, Carnforth, Lancashire.

At the same money was Glyn Coch 24XCA02297, a Glyn Coch Bolt daughter out of a Wernfawr Stormer homebred female and scanned a single to Moelfryn Bouncer. Buying this one was H W Davies, Alltwalis, Carmarthenshire.
The last of the shearling females at 1000gns was Glyn Coch 24XCA02233, another by Glyn Coch Ace and this time out of a homebred female by Glyn Coch Volcano. With triplets to Moelfryn Bouncer, previous buyers Harry Bishop and Emily South added this one to the trailer home to Oxfordshire.
